The Five UVB Myths
Myth 1: UVB exposure can lead to skin cancer
Numerous studies have shown that UVB phototherapy treatments are effective and Safe* when used as prescribed. Nothing in medical literature indicates that the proper use of UVB has ever caused an increased risk of skin cancer. Repeated sun burning is the concern. In fact, phototherapy is used to treat skin cancers such as CTCL.
Myth 2: Biologic drugs are more effective
UVB phototherapy treatments usually provide moderate to total clearing in 80% or more of the cases. Biologic drugs work only 45%-60% of the time at best. With severe skin conditions, the combination of phototherapy and medications are the magic bullet.
Myth 3: My patients will get burned
Conducting the proper exposure to any given patient is straightforward and relatively simple. UV treatment dosage always begins far below the threshold of skin burning and is gradually increased over time. With a successful series of “step up” treatments, your patient’s skin will either totally or moderately clear.
Myth 4: Too much of my time will be required per patient
After the initial consultation, the physician’s time is not required for a treatment. In most cases, the office technician or nurse is more than capable to conduct the simple exposure setting procedure.
Myth 5: I don’t have time to learn the side effects
Simple precautions and procedures will avoid known side effects:
• Wear eye goggles
• Cover male genitals
• No repeated over-exposure
• Don't treat patients on photosensitive medications |

Biologics: What you Should Know
Are Biologic drugs more effective than light therapy?
Are biologic drugs more effective than light therapy using narrow band (nbUVB) or UVA? The answer is: they are not! They are in fact about half as effective as phototherapy, take approximately twice as long to work, and are roughly four times as expensive as light therapy! Data from clinical studies shows the following:
Narrow band UVB light phototherapy treatments usually provide moderate to total clearing in 80%or more of the cases, and PUVA treatments, which is Psoralen + UVA light, provide moderate to total clearing in 90% of the cases. On the other hand, biologic drugs work only 45% to 50% of the time. The exception is Remicade which is up to 82% effective, although this effectiveness is offset by often severe side effects, both long and short term.
Light therapy, however, has virtually no side effects when
used properly.
Additionally, the yearly cost of biologics is up to four times as much as light phototherapy, both narrow band and UVA light. A phototherapy system from UVBioTek™ is purchased once, for a lifetime...Biologic injections must be prescribed on a continuous basis!
It's quite "CLEAR" that your choice for treating Psoriasis, Eczema, or Vitiligo, should be without a doubt... PHOTOTHERAPY!
